Summer Weather

Wander here a whole summer, if you can. Thousands of God's wild blessings will search you and soak you as if you were a sponge, and the big days will go by uncounted.

John Muir

But godliness with contentment is great gain. 1 Timothy 6:6 ESV

In mid-June, our local area had a heat wave that lasted close to two weeks. Temperatures were well into the 90’s and reached an unusual June 100 degree day. It was HOT and hot weather is not my favorite type of weather!  But then we had a five day cool weather break!  It was so lovely to be able to open all the windows so that the house was filled with fresh cool air! Sleeping was a dream! Ha, pun intended. Working in the yard and walking the pup were such pleasant activities with cooler weather. I didn’t have to get up early to beat the heat!

Yet, I know that it’s only June and hot weather is returning. Though I loved the cool spell and heat is not my preferred weather, I DO enjoy some things about hot summer days. I do enjoy watching my vegies grow and savoring the wonderful taste of homegrown tomatoes! Shady mornings in the garden provide a colorful, blossoming place for a quiet time. Paddleboarding on cool mountain lakes is so relaxing. On a warm summer day hike, taking a dip in a cool mountain lake as a break refreshes body and soul to create lovely memories. Then there’s the evenings in my yard…warm summer evenings to watch a glorious golden pink sunset framed by flowers, trees, and green growing things everywhere. Yes, hot summer days can be tough, but they do have their own charm.

Like most things in life, we can choose to appreciate the moment or we can bemoan that we want things to be different. If you are a hot weather person, what do you appreciate about cooler spells in the summer? If you are a cool weather person, what do you appreciate about the often hot weather of summer?  No matter what the summer weather, choose to find something positive about it and smile!
