Spring life!
The delicious soft, spring-suggesting air,—how it fills my veins with new life!
Henry David Thoreau
When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive—to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.
Marcus Aurelius
Happy northern hemisphere vernal equinox day! That’s a mouthful of words! For those of you who prefer simpler language, happy first day of spring! It’s official; it’s the day in the Northern Hemisphere when the day is split almost equally into daytime and nighttime hours (“equinox” etymology breaks down into “equi” or “equal” and “nox” or night). For us in the northern hemisphere, as the earth continues its trip around the sun, the tilt towards the sun will mean warmer longer days. This is the astronomical first day of spring celebrated by many cultures worldwide. Though meteorological spring is March 1st as the year is split into three month increments for each season based on overall heat/cold trends.
Any way that you look at it, spring is definitely here now! Even if you have a cold, snowy day today, rest assured that spring is in the air and plentiful sunshine will arrive before you know it. Birds and other animals are migrating northward. Deciduous trees, shrubs, and flowering plants are waking up and growing. Baby and young animals are everywhere. Life is all around us.
No matter what is going on in your life at the moment, whether sad or happy, I pray that you will notice the beauty and extravagant abundance of life happening all around you. Know that you too can have a season of growth and renewal as you turn both outward and inward.
