Sharing ideas and stories…

On November 5th, I wrote about a tradition in our family, and it got me to thinking about how special it is to have family traditions. Since families often have a number of holiday traditions, I thought that it would be fun to invite my followers to share some of their favorite ones so that I can share some of those ideas throughout the holiday season. If you have a story that surrounds the tradition, and don’t mind me editing it, I would enjoy sharing the accompanying story, as well.

To start things off, I will briefly tell you about one holiday tradition in our family. Like many people, I enjoy decorative lighted holiday houses. My mom bought me a “Snow Village” church years ago, and the next year, both my mom and my husband begin getting me houses and accessories annually. This continued on for many, many years. In addition, our family would even sometimes stop by a shop that carried Snow Village just so that I could pick out some small people or accessories for the village scenes. It started so very small, but now I have to pick and choose which Village houses to put out each year. But what a delight it is to take out and display old favorites or set out ones that I’ve not put out for a few years.

In spite of many choices, one Village “scene” gets put out every year, in almost exactly the same way. Everyone in our family loves the “woodsy” scene, which gets put above the fireplace, near the Christmas tree. It feels like a winter escape into a perfect holiday mountain resort. From a stream. to trees, to animals, to people, to little cabins and lodges, the scene is perfect. My husband used to say that he wished he could transport himself right into that little Christmas forest. One of my adult sons enjoys working with me to put up that Christmas display. Conversations and special memories surround that woodland scene, making it feel cozy, familiar, and heartwarming, just like we always hope the holidays will be.

So if you are willing to share, please use the email on the contact page to send me one of your favorite traditions. Maybe you will have an idea that will start another family on the road to a new holiday tradition!
