Recharging our light…
Come to Me (Jesus), all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29 LSB
Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.
Ovid
This spring, I have some new solar lights to put out in my yard. A couple of them look like rocks so they blend in with my backyard rocks. Then there are some exceptionally beautiful lights with hummingbird decorations on them which will grace my trees. It’s so practical that they recharge during the day to cast their lovely little glow at night.
During a recent conversation with a friend, she pointed out how solar lights function in a way similar to how we recharge our spiritual batteries through time with God daily. Her keen observation also made me think of how our light shines in a sometimes-darkened world too. There’s a reason that Jesus modeled time alone with the Father and why He demonstrated the importance of the knowledge and application of Scripture; it’s for our own good as well as the good of those around us.
Even if you are not a believer, it’s important to take time out from busy lives to relax and recharge. We all need rest and times of solitude and peace apart from the busy world so that we can go back out into the world refreshed and ready to live and share joy.
So the next time that you see a solar light shining in the dark, use that as a reminder to take time to recharge too!
