Pink is a colour that mankind, or the English-speaking part of it, instinctively choose as the symbol of perfection. We speak not only of ‘the pink of perfection’, but of ‘the pink of fashion’, or ‘the pink of elegance.’  Many a soldier, writing from the Front, kept up the spirits of wife and children by signing his letter: ‘Yours in the pink.’ Robert Lynd
