We All Scream for Ice Cream!

One of my strongest childhood memories of ice cream was a birthday celebration at Farrells Ice Cream Parlor where my friends and I enjoyed a “Zoo”. This massive ice cream bowl had many different types of ice cream scoops and toppings and was decorated by little neon plastic glassy looking zoo animals. With sirens blaring, this huge bowl centered in a wooden stretcher was delivered by parlor employees wearing traditional striped outfits with straw hats. The whole experience was deliciousness and fun all rolled into one outing!
Making ice cream takes ice cream to a whole new level! We didn’t make ice cream much while I was growing up, but when raising my own family, we had a large electric ice cream maker which we used regularly in the summer. These days, I have a very small ice cream maker where you pre-freeze the canister; it’s handy as less mess but such tiny portions! Yet, the pleasure of ice cream is not diminished by the smaller amounts. If anything, it’s more precious…to be doled out as a special treat! Nothing quite like watching a sunset with a loved one while enjoying bowls of homemade ice cream…though I have to admit that sometimes my sole companion is my pup; he gets dog treats while I enjoy my favorite homemade raspberry with hot fudge sauce on top!
Even if I’m not making or eating homemade ice cream, it’s delightful to share an ice cream outing with family or friends! Ice cream parlors have so many wonderful choices for flavors! Most of my favorites involve chocolate (or have chocolate flakes or swirls), but I do like a variety of other flavors. The best part of any ice cream outing is creating a sweet memory by sharing a tasty treat with family or friends! Just a couple weeks ago, one dear friend and I spent several hours on a warm summer night, savoring ice cream and conversation!
