All sorrows are less with bread.

With cooler weather comes the undeniable urge to indulge in fall comfort foods. It’s a delicious time of year that leads right into the holiday season yet has its own culinary delights to warm us inside and out on cool or cloudy days.
On a cold day, what can be better than a tasty homemade meal? Who doesn’t love soup with bread? Chicken noodle, vegetable, turkey, beef…all the yummy varieties that satisfy the need for a warm, filling meal. Pair that bowl of soup with a warm, crusty slice of French bread with melted butter. Maybe even throw in a salad, as well. Of course, pasta dishes also say “comfort food” in a way few foods can. A personal favorite of my family is homemade macaroni and cheese or lasagna…and heavy on the cheese, please!
Then there’s the whole array of autumn dessert or snack possibilities. On one side are the seasonal “breads”, which are really sweet treats! Banana bread and pumpkin bread are two popular favorites. Then there’s the pies and crisps; I sure love a tasty apple crisp with yummy apples topped generously by buttery, cinnamonny, sugary, oats! And let’s not forget the cookies. The all time family favorite for fall is the snickerdoodle, but I have to say that a warm chocolate chip oatmeal cookie is a close second for me.
Whatever your favorite fall food is, now is the time to indulge! Enjoy every bite, but remember that it isn’t how much you eat, but the savoring of each and every little bite. With fall heading fast towards the holiday season, moderation is the key. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the comfort foods of autumn!
